Public Health Medicine Departments

The Public Health Medicine Department of Hospital Al-Sultan Abdullah (HASA) UiTM Puncak Alam was establishment in 2021 to address matters related to Public Health including occupational safety and health, hospital environment health, and health promotion. The department consists of Public Health Physicians, Medical Officers, trained nurses, a Safety and Health officer, assistant environmental health officers, and administrative assistants.

The goals of the department are to ensure hospital staff and customers are in a safe, clean, and conducive environment in line with the provisions of the act, ethics, and regulations set such as the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994, the Environmental Quality Act 1974, the Food Act 1983, the Destruction of Disease-Bearing Insects Act 1975, and the Prevention and Control of Infectious Disease Act 1988.

The Department is divided into 3 main units as follows:

Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Unit
Environmental Health (EH) Unit
Health Promotion and Quality (HPQ) Unit

To plan, organize and coordinate Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) programs in HASA UiTM.
To plan, organize, coordinate and monitor activities related to prevention and control of infectious diseases and diseases related to the environment in HASA UiTM.
To plan and coordinate public health related enforcement activities in HASA UiTM.
To plan, organize and coordinate the activities of the Food Safety and Quality at the hospital.
To plan and coordinate public health related enforcement activities in HASA UiTM.
To plan, coordinate, and implement HASA quality improvement activities related to OSH and Environmental Health (EH).
To plan, coordinate, and organize training and health promotion activities related to OSH and EH in HASA UiTM.

Occupational Safety and Health.

Occupational Medicine Clinic.
Medical Surveillance for high risk staf.
Needle Stick Injury (NSI)/ Sharpe Injury/ Bodily Fluid Splash Surviellance.
Healthcare workers medical and health surveillance including Hepatitis B and influenza vaccination programme, and disaster management.
Fit Mask Testing.
Quit Smoking Clinic.
OSH Surveillance and Prevention Programme including Hazard Identification.
Risk Assessment and Risk Control (HIRARC).
Chemical Health Risk Assessment (CHRA) and Chemical Exposed Monitoring (CEM).
Audits to ensure compliance to OSH Law and Advocacy.

Environmental Health.

Environmental health surveillance and prevention programmes including food premise Inspection and surveillance, food catering tender and business space, event management, tobacco control, export of corpses from hospital, and disaster management.

Monitoring of Hospital Waste Management (General and Clinical Waste).
Food Safety & Quality Control.
Monitoring of Indoor Air Quality.
Monitoring Safe Water and Drinking Water Quality.
Monitoring Environmental Engineering and Sanitation.
Audits to Ensure Compliance to Laws and Advocacy.

Health Promotion.

Healthactivities and program report.
Health promotion, education, and training related to Public Health Medicine.
Health education materials.

Take 5 Challenge :

Is part of the Life campaign which to aims to reduce sedentary behavior among HASA staff at the workplace. Sitting for long periods of time is proven to have long term effect on the body such as low back pain. To avoid that kind of consequences our department suggest to practice at least 5 minute excercise as per demonstrate below.
