The Department of Medical Social Work is seen as providing clinical support services, facilitation, and liaison officers to patients and relatives who receive treatment and rehabilitation. At the beginning, the Medical Social Work Unit (UKSP) was created and developed in line with the current service needs of the Clinical Training Center (CTC) Faculty of Medicine UiTM Sungai Buloh Campus by accepting the employment of one (1) Assistant Medical Social Officer S27 (Contract) on 2 April 2012. UKSP was fully operational on Level 1, the Clinical Study Center offering therapy support services and practical assistance. In 2014, UKSP's name was changed to Medical Social Work Division (BKSP) in line with the institution's name change to UiTM Medical Center (PPUiTM).

In September 2020, the name of the Medical Social Work Division (BKSP) was changed to the Medical Social Work Department (JKSP) in line with the establishment of Hospital Al-Sultan Abdullah UiTM (HASA) at UiTM Puncak Alam Campus. This hospital also has another health facility at the PPUiTM, Sungai Buloh Campus. Now HASA has started its operations at UiTM Puncak Alam campus in April 2021 and still maintains its health facility at UiTM Sungai Buloh Campus which is a specialist center for treating heart and lung patients.

The Medical Social Work Department of HASA currently has one Social and Community Officer (N41), one Assistant Registrar (N41), two Executive Officers (N29), one Assistant Medical Social Officer (S29), one Senior Clerk (N22) and three Clerks (N19). In anticipation of the increase in patients in this hospital in the future, this department will continue to receive more Social and Community Officers, Assistant Registrars and Executive Officers as well as support staff to ensure that the services in this department run smoothly and provide the best service to patients and relatives of patients who receive service at HASA.
