Dietetic and Food Service

Department of Dietetics has started its operation since 2010. Initially, the department started with Dietetic Clinical Service which was first offered when Faculty of Medicine in UiTM Selayang Campus open its door to the public.  During that time, there were only 2 Dietitians available. In 2011, Department of Dietetics and Catering has expanded further when UiTM Medical Specialist Center begins operating in Sungai Buloh Campus.  Food services start to roll out to serve diet for in-patients in ward. Our department through a vendor serves a normal and therapeutic diets for patients in ward. Recently, the Department of Dietetics and Catering continues to grow successfully with the opening of Hospital UiTM in Puncak Alam Campus.

Department of Dietetics and Food Services are currently headed by Chief Dietetic Officer, and assisted by two U44 Dietetic Officers, a U41 Dietetic Officer as well as two C29 Assistant Science Officers.

Vision
To be a center of excellence in clinical Dietetics services, food preparation and to be a diet and nutrition reference center in professional Dietetics services.

Mission
The Department of Dietetics and Catering is committed to ensuring improvement in clinical dietetics services, catering services and health promotion for patients..

Objective
  • Provide comprehensive advisory services
  • Provide a healthy, balanced and quality diet and meals to patients
  • Provide Dietetic services and proper food based on the needs of patients
  • Improving the quality of services from various aspects such as management, clinical dietary services and catering services.
  • Provides clinical attachment training of Dietetic services.
Clinical Dietetic Services
Clinical dietetic services are provided to inpatients and outpatients based on referrals from Medical Officers.
For inpatients, clinical dietetic services include:
  • Diet consultation services (based on medical diagnoses and current medical issues)
  • Enteral nutritional support
  • Nutrition education for individuals and groups
  • Dietetic education or ongoing Dietetics training activities at the community level, giving talks, workshops and seminars
  • Provide clinical attachment training of Dietetic services to students of the university Dietetics program
  • Supply of enteral formula to the ward 
For outpatients, our services include individual and group food education. To get an appointment directly, you need to get a patient referral letter through a Medical Officer.

Catering Services
  • Provides diet to inpatients and on -call doctors
  • Provide a supply of dry food for the needs of patients in the ward
  • Monitor the operations and activities of food preparation contractor companies appointed in catering services to patients
  • The purchasing and procurement process includes purchasing, receipt, invoice management and payment documents
Departmental Training
The Department of Dietetics and Catering holds CDE sessions once a month according to a pre -arranged schedule. Titles include clinical dietetics services, journal reviews and catering services.
The department also provides clinical Dietetics attachment training to university Dietetics course students and to Clinical Instructor for university Dietetics program students.

Quality Activities
Clinical Dietetic Services
  • Percentage of inpatients seen by dietitian within 24 hours [(1) working day]
  • Percentage of patients receiving at least 70% of the recommended energy requirement within 5 days after initiation of enteral nutrition
Catering Services
  • Conduct customer satisfaction surveys from time to time
  • Implement incident reports if there is physical contamination in food provided to patients
