Cardiovascular and thoracic surgery services are a specialized and important area of expertise. In line with the development of this service at the Faculty of Medicine UiTM and the demand for this service throughout Malaysia is still high, the process of improving Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery services is very important so that the teaching and learning process can be expanded according to the need to produce more cardiovascular and thoracic surgeons. to accommodate the increasing burden of heart patients in the future.
- The Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Unit was started in 2007 by a Consultant Surgeon, Professor Dr Hafil Budianto, who at the time focused on the unit preparation and Undergraduate education until 2010.
- In 2013, the unit was staffed by a Consultant Surgeon (Prof. Dr. Mohd Zamrin Bin Dimon) and together with two Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Specialist Trainees (Dr. Adli Azam Bin Mohamad Razi and Dr. Muhammad ‘Abid Bin Amir).
- In 2014, there was the addition of another Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Specialist Trainee doctor (Dr Noor Izham Bin Ismail).
- In 2018, there will be an addition of two Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons (Dr Adli Azam and Dr Abid Amir) after these two specialist trainees completed their specialist training and were registered in the ‘ National Specialist Registry’ (NSR).
- In 2019, another Professor, Prof Dato 'Dr. Zainuddin Bin Wazir has joined the Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery unit, Faculty of Medicine UiTM.
- In 2020, there will be an additional 6 Trainee Medical Lecturers who will continue their studies at the Masters and Doctorate in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, namely:

- Dr Muhammad Juffri Bin Samsuddin
- Dr Tuan Muhamad Syukri Tuan Kob
- Dr Muhammad Syafiek Mohd Razali
- Dr Nazurah Badrul Zaman
- Dr Wan Mohamad Afham Wan Jusoh
- Dr Allim Khairuddin
- To date, this Cardiovascular and Thoracic unit consists of 2 Professors, 2 Consultant Surgeons and 7 Trainee Medical Lecturers.
